Class AA Girls

100 Meter Dash
The 100 was again the McKenna Smith show as Bridgeport Senior set new All-Time Bests in both the trials and again in the finals. Her State Record time of 11.85 stands as the Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance and won the event by nearly 0.7 seconds. Teammate Isabella Bowen took the 2nd spot at 12.53. Winfield's Carly Hinkle was 3rd in 12.61. Roane's Josie Raines was 4th in 12.75. Shady Spring got a 5th from Regan Hefner in 12.88, and Liberty Harrison's Josie Rhodes was 6th in 12.95. One of my predicted placers did not start the finals.
RunWV's Current Score: 5 of 6.

200 Meter Dash
Bridgeport's McKenna Smith again decimated the field taking the win by over 1.4 seconds with a stellar 24.49 time. Her 24.36 in the trials set a new All-Time Best, a new State Record, and stands as the Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Again, teammate Isabella Bowen took the 2nd spot in 25.92. Roane's Josie Raines was 3rd in 26.34. No one else went under 27 seconds, but 4th through 6th were all under 27.20.
RunWV's Current Score: 10 of 12.

400 Meter Dash
Bridgeport's McKenna Smith continued to astound Saturday morning, knocking over half a second off her existing State Record. She scorched the track to a 54.61 to set a new All-Time Best, a new All-Time Best State Meet Performance, and a new All-Time Best Class A-AA State Meet Performance. It was a strong year for the 400 as Bridgeport's Isabella Bowen sped to a 57.34 time, which is the 6th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. She just held off North Marion's Eve Hine, who clocked a 57.62 giving her the 9th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Those 3 were under 58, but no one else came in under 60 seconds. The next three were all under 61 seconds. One of my predicted placers did not finish as it appeared that her blocks slipped as she pushed off and she sprawled to the track. I thought it was clearly something that would have warranted a re-start, but none came.
RunWV's Current Score: 15 of 18.

800 Meter Run
Fairmont Senior's Maya Brinson took the field out quickly, covering the first lap in 67 seconds. Winfield's Grace Cole was right on her heels. Brinson held the lead through the first turn, but about 30 meters into the backstretch, Cole accelerated and made the pass. Brinson battled, but Cole was able to complete the pass before the turn. Cole was able to maintain the lead, and pulled away in the last 100 to win by over 2.5 seconds with a 2:18.04. Brinson easily held the 2nd spot at 2:20.61. Winfield's Kalei Jordan came up to take the 3rd spot in 2:23.56 with teammate Isabella Robinson in 4th at 2:24.65, giving Winfield 3 of the top 4 places. Bridgeport's Julia Muller just edged past Sissonville's Emer Carrington for 5th in the last couple meters 2:25.11 to 2:25.29.
RunWV's Current Score: 20 of 24.

1600 Meter Run
The first lap saw a pack of 13 together at an unaggressive 1:20 with North Marion's Taylor Trowbridge at the front of the pack. Berkeley Springs' Stephanie Golden was in 2nd, and Bridgeport's Julia Muller was in 3rd. On the 2nd lap Alyssa Rittinger and Anna Lumadue accelerated into the lead on the backstretch, and Lewis' Emily Louk joined them. At the halfway point, Rittinger and Lumadue continued to lead at 2:44 with Golden about a half stride behind. Winfield's Kalei Jordan had a slight lead on Louk for 4th, and Muller was in 6th. 11 remained within 2 seconds of the lead. Not a lot of shifting occurred in lap 3, but as they came to the line, Louk moved into the lead at 4:09. Lumadue, Golden, and Rittinger were at 4:10. Jordan and Muller were at 4:11. Through the first turn and halfway down the backstretch, Louk opened about a 10 meter lead. That was when you could see Muller start to make a run from 6th. With 200 to go, Louk still lead by about 10 meters, but Muller had moved into 2nd and was coming hard. Lumadue still held the 3rd spot, just ahead of Golden. With 100 to go, Louk was still in front, but Muller was coming hard and had cut the gap to about 3 meters. Muller made the pass with about 50 meters to go and pulled away to win by nearly 2 seconds in 5:22.35. Louk easily held the 2nd spot in 5:24.16. Jordan moved into 3rd in 5:25.47. Lumadue nipped Golden for 4th 5:28.10 to 5:28.30. Rittinger held on for 6th in 5:31.44.
RunWV's Current Score: 25 of 30.

3200 Meter Run
The field went out reasonably, with Berkeley Springs' Amanda Lupton leading them through in 1:17. At 1:18 were Philip Barbour's Jessica Melvin, Keyser's Kyleena Purvis, and Philip Barbour's Kierra Hodge. Winfield's Alyssa Rittinger was in 5th at 1:19, and Bridgeport's Julia Muller was in 6th at 1:20. On the 2nd lap, those continued to hold the front positions, with Lupton, Melvin, and Purvis coming through at 2:44 and Rittinger, Hodge, and Muller at 2:45. Lap 3 looked much the same with Lupton, Melvin, and Purvis at 4:11 and Hodge, Rittinger, and Muller at 4:12. These 6 had now opened a 5 second gap on the rest of the field. At the midway point, Melvin had moved slightly into the lead at 5:40 with Lupton at the same time. Rittinger had moved into 3rd also at 5:40. Muller was up to 4th in 5:41, followed by Purvis also at 5:41 and Hodge at 5:42. The gap back to 7th had grown to 8 seconds. On lap 5, Melvin opened a slight gap at 7:09. Lupton was still just a couple meters back at 7:10. Rittinger and Muller were about another 5 meters back in 7:11. Purvis was close behind them at 7:12. Hodge had lost contact in 6th at 7:15, but was still 10 seconds ahead of 7th. On the 6th lap, Melvin and Lupton broke away from the other 3 with Melvin continuing to lead at 8:39 and Lupton at 8:40. Purvis moved back into 3rd at 8:44 with Rittinger and Muller at 8:45. Hodge was still battling and was still in it at 8:47. It was pretty clear at this point that these would be the 6 placers. As they came to the line to start the final lap, it was still Melvin in front at 10:09 with Lupton about a stride back, but matching that time. Purvis, Muller, and Rittinger were at 10:17 and Hodge was at 10:24. With 300 meters to go, Lupton made a move, and Melvin had no response. Lupton stretched the lead to over 10 meters by the time they reached the final turn. Lupton continued to push to the finish line and took the win by 9 seconds in 11:25.51. Melvin easily held the 2nd spot at 11:34.52. Muller had a strong finish to take the 3rd spot in 11:37.23. Rittinger pulled away from Purvis for 4th in 11:43.36. Purvis held the 5th position at 11:48.80. Hodge easily held the 6th spot at 11:51.98. Everyone else ended up over 20 seconds behind.
